Full Version: It Is Time For Buffalo Fans To Reclaim Their Original Logo

NO MORE SLUG
Ugh, get rid of the Slug…
What is that on the front of the Sabres jersey? Maybe it’s a logo for a show on “Animal Planet”. You know, take care of an animal with no legs. Is it a Bison fetus? Maybe it’s emerging from something? Kind of like Vancouver’s Orca Whale fetus that breaks through the ice, or whatever it might be. We could stretch this out and refer to the logo as Preemie from that rather mediocre cartoon on Comedy Central whose name I can’t remember, Does the logo make one projectile vomit, like Preemie? Why yellow? It’s like someone went to Wegmans and took a jar of Weber’s mustard and smashed it on an aisle floor. Is it a croissant that has Weber’s mustard on it?

Barney Rubble had a croissant, put it on his head…with Weber’s mustard on it? Donald Trump stole a croissant from Barney Rubble and…maybe there was a contest at Sweet Home’s Maplemere elementary school, and the kids were in art class and they had to try and create a logo with mustard, preferably Weber’s, and were told that the Bison couldn’t have legs, and that the one horn had to be white, whilst the other be yellow…and if this sentence were to continue much further, only Marty Biron could appreciate it. And don’t forget the red eye like the original Bison with legs…they included that, and a bit of gray from the Rigas years. Someone cleanup the mustard in the aisle and the uniform too, thanks.

It is time for Buffalo fans to reclaim their original logo.
In 1996 the New York Islander "fish sticks" logo sold as high as number four in league sales and most hockey fans know what happened as it was quickly scrapped. I maintain that the slug's sales was a fluke, a perfect storm of winning, management avoidance, and genuine fans simply happy they got the blue and gold colors back. Winning though, was the main catalyst, and it still doesn't validate such a bad logo design.

So far this new third jersey is what fans expected the Sabres to deliver back in 2006. So it is up to the fans to get vocal and decide if the new vintage style logo is what should be the primary look of the team.

It could be just like Minnesota...in 06-07 they had this jersey as there alternate...
http://www.prosport.ca/images/7185A_MWI_BLANK_5A7_MF.jpg
and then last year it was there permanent Home jersey. Now they still have the away one the same...and as much as i want to get rid of the slug completely this would be a start having the slug away and Alternate at home....at least it works for Minnesota tho because there away jersey is nice(not a slug/mustard smear)

It's easy fans, just buy up all the 3rd logo(our true original) merch.,
and never spend a penny on slug again.
Money talks, fight with your wallet, it's all they understand.

Start a petition for it. tongue.gif

I actually like the slug... but I do like the new jerseys more, so the Vanek one I just ordered was one of those. smile.gif

I imagine the new jerseys will sell like hotcakes, and will give management incentive to switch off of the slug.

Ok ...hold on! I for one respect the history of the older logos BUT we are not a "original six" team (which should not have there traditional logos changed) Regardless of that note I for one like the modern change. OH I KNOW here comes the flamers with there attacks on me. but now you have the best of both worlds people ...kids and people who like the newer logo have what they want and all the people who like the "traditional" logo have what they want ...now it's time to worry about the team and winning. WHO cares what the heck the team has on there jersey. Please stop the complaining and crying over the darn uniform. You got the old colors back in new form, and now you have a third that respects the traditions of what the past was.

For god sakes you know I wont be surprised if some foolish group tries to prevent the Auds demolition next when it's time to be really dismantled. It's time to move forward Buffalo. There is always tradition you save in ways...but you cant save everything. I'm proud of my team still being here and what it means to the area the economy and keeping a wonderful building filled 41 plus nights a year. No one would be having this argument today had it not been for current ownership and there belief in this city.

Cut them a break and get on with it ...we all have what we want now.

I don't understand the fans that say they DON'T CARE about the logo that represents THEM, US, our TEAM, our TOWN!
A freekin yellow cartoon slug, is embarrassing to ALL.
The only reason for changing, is to soak you for more money, and look at the trouble it's caused.
Don't be a sheep, and follow along, stand for our team and respect, and refuse to be represented by a SLUG!
GO SABRES!

And I don't find anything wrong with the logo? as I did not find anything wrong with the Red And Black logo that everyone complained about? In fact i think that logo looked a lot better then the current one. BUT We have to accept change. HOWEVER Im thinking this war will never end between fans regardless if your for new and old. AKA YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE BUT YOU CAN SURE TRY and that's what the management has tried to do -so be happy now.

I'm so loooooonely, so loneeeeeeeely, so lonely and sad, real alone.

There is no one, just me only, who actually likes the Sabres logo.

Can I ask why? I'm not trying to be jerk. I just don't understand what is so great about the current logo. In my opinion the original logo should be the only logo. I didn't mind the the Red & Black era, I'm just not a fan of this new Blue & Gold era's logo.
TopSpinJay
well we have the current logo because people were not happy with the red and black...

I don't mind the logo as is, I was really opposed to the change from red and black to the new blue and yellow.

BUT I don't have a choice they made the change so i've grown to accept it.

Some just won't, I grew up with the red and black...Like I said in my previous post. I respect the tradition of the original logo and what it means to the players and teams of the past. But I wont be stuck in the past. This is 2008- And the future of the city could be a lot brighter... But until people get off there behinds and start doing things and get this city moving forward things will never change or progress here for the better. People have lost Jobs have been forced to move away to make a living. This city should be proud of it's past BUT NOT LIVE IN IT. and that's what exactly is wrong with this city.

So many things talked about but never happen, never come true, never get built for the future. ITS TIME to stand up to the leaders of this area- get developers involved, and inspire people to look to the future for there kids and grand kids. Buffalo can move forward and be great again. I guess we should all be pleased and blessed that the Knox family pushed to get the job done and get our beautiful building in HSBC Arena built. Otherwise there would be no NHL here ....and the current management saving the team from bankruptcy should be praised for there actions as well. Nobody would be even making an argument about this logo issue had it not been for them coming in and buying the team and the hard work of the Knox family to get the building up. And might I remind everyone that it was the Knoxes that changed the logo and colors NOT Adelphia like some think.
mrkwllb
I understand your point TopSpinJay, but if the Sabres had to change the logo not to move on to the future as you put it, but other teams haven't followed the trend. Some teams have made minor tweaks to their original logo. And as Sabres fans we've when through drastic changes. When discussion went on about changing the logo management should of looked at the original logo and figured out how to make the minor tweaks to bring it to the future instead of giving us what they did.

It is simply unaceptable to have a fecal smear for a logo.

I have never before seen ANY professional sports team with a kick backside logo like ours switch; let alone switch to something as pathetic as the slug.

It's like dumping Jessica Simpson for Rosie O'Donnell......... huh.gif
mechaphil
I for one highly enjoyed the red and black era uniforms. They gave us that shining ray of a heavenly third jersey, after all.

With that said, yes I hate the slug. Yes, I do my part to encourage fans to make their voices heard with their wallets. But I don't keep throwing up posts that engender the same cycle of responses each time. We all know which posters hate the slug, which tolerate it, and which like it (poor poor bigC lol), and those opinions are not going to change.

My battle cry will always be "Salt the Slug", and I've been doing it with my hard-earned dollars spent on vintage merchandise.

Leave it alone, NO MORE SLUG, we got your point.
PerreaultFan91
if they're gonna change logos again, the next one needs to be once and for all

I suspect things will stay like they are now for this year and next. (Current home/away+third) 2010-11 will be the teams 40th anniversary. I would not be surprised if they use the current third jersey and either the classic white (a la Winter Classic) or a redesign similar to what they did for the blue for the anniversary year. The following year, use the current home (slug) as a third.

New England's logo is a huge improvement over the previous guy, bent over and waiting to take in the...
sabrecopbern
Not saying it wasn't an improvement was merely pointing out we aren't the only pro team with a "sweeping" logo.
Skyline_BNR34
Much rather have the old logo, but have learned to tolerate the slug.

Want old logo back but if it isn't coming back I'm not going to cry, learn to accept it, but never buy it.

Sabre11
I'm no fashion police and I hate the new logo and will NOT pay a cent for it, but put that a side. I have issue's with the away jersey. How can somebody put a purely yellow logo and a white jersey...That is just stupid whether you like the new logo or NOT.....
