Why use the "New third" logo as a backdrop when promoting a rather large event that brings awareness and attention to the Buffalo Sabres?

Could this be a subtle hint?

I found it interesting that the back drop for the World Jr's announcement showed the Sabres vintage logo on the "back drop"

It was not the slug...and it didn't appear to be the "new third" it was the old classic from the 70's and 80's.

Could it be...that it is known that this will be the Sabres logo/jersey/full time identity in 2010... so let's make the anouncement with that showing...

I mean, if the slug would still be the primary in 2010 wouldn't that be on the back drop ?

I think we are entering the end of the slug...and true vintage would be awesome..white and blue..road and home !!!

I noticed the original logo being exclusively shown, too. No Slug in sight. Coupled with the original logo being used on center ice, I think the slug may go the way of the Islander fisherman in another year. At best, look for the slug to be retained as a 3rd logo.

I definitely noticed that they used the vintage logo in the backdrop when they did the World Juniors announcement. I guess we will see...

Let's keep our fingers crossed that a return to the real logo is emminent.

The slug reminds me of Boy Bands. Some people can be hoodwinked into liking them. Once their knowledge of the team/music develop, they stop liking, and wonder why they ever did.

I think the back drop was just one more sign of the team slowly moving away from the slug. Notice the logo at center ice? No slug. I think it's days are numbered.

i hate to mr johnny rain cloud but i dont see this as being a hit that the sabres are going back to the old logo. ive seen teams use secondary logos on the backdrops of news conferences before. it appears like its because it works better with the space or the color of the backdrop (how distracting would it be to have the yellow primary all over the backdrop when the focus is the USA Hockey/World Jrs).

To me it doesn't really matter at all. It is the team and the sport that I love.

I don't hate the "slug" in any respect and I would enjoy seeing it remain.
If it is changed back to the original, or "new original" than so be it.

People are placing way to much emphasis on something that matters so little.

Well here's some hope for you guys. About two years before the football Giants went retro with their uniforms, the smaller case ny started appearing on lots of their merchandise. The year before the switch the lower case ny was all over the sidelines, coaches , QB hats, gloves. lots of things. Let's hope the Sabres have the same game plan and we never see another Slug after 2009 !

I'm sure management has grown tired of hearing people coin the logo "slug" by pretty much everyone in the media and fans of the NHL.

With the world juniors coming in a couple years ...does that mean no sabrs home games for 2 weeks?? or how ever long the tournment is?

the more we get to see our true logo, the better, and I pray it mean's something.
I've fought against the slug from the beginning, and alway's will.
I saw that they were just going to keep forcefeeding that slug, but it was never
going to represent my team or town. As far as I'm concerned, it's already dead.
They've never made a penny from me, on that slug, and never will.
I only buy our true logo, as if it's alway's been there. My 3rd is on the way, but
to me, it's #1. I would of liked to see our new jerseys we're wearing now, with our
real logo, and the laces! That would of been awesome!
But the new 3rds are sweet, and on there way to being #1 again, I also believe!
Keep fighting fans, we're seeing the light of day, and just wait til the team wears them
during a game, there will be no denile, our 3rd is NUMBER ONE!

What's probably going to happen is much of the early round match ups that won't get as much media attention, i.e. a game between Lativa vs. Brussels, that a United States vs Canada would get will be played at one of Dwyer Arena's 2 rinks at Niagara University. Thus allowing the Sabres to play at home during the tournament. Marquee Games throughout the tournament, like a United States vs. Canada or Russia vs Czech Republic, as well as elimination, semi, and finals will be played at HSBC Arena when the Sabres are on the road.

Although I have already most definitely gotten used to the new logo, I wouldn't be unhappy at yet another new change, because new stuff always makes me happy.

But lemme ask all you "slug" haters this: If God came down and said to you, "Here, you can have either one of two things. One, the Sabres are guaranteed to win the Stanley Cup, THIS year, but they have to keep the Slug for the next twenty. Or two, they get their old logo back, but for the next twenty years, they will be guaranteed to NOT win the Cup. I'm leaving this one totally up to you. decide now."

Which would you choose?

The Center Ice logo is the Original Logo, NOT The Slug!!

I would choose to see the real logo on the jersey's of the Stanley Cup winning Sabres as they proudly raise the Cup and take turns skating around the rink with it.

The glowing spectorss of Seymour Knox III, Northrop Knox, Punch Imlach, and Tim Horton looking on.........

obviously i would choose the stanley cup. id choose the cup anyday over everything. even passing my classes. i personally dont mind the slug as much as a lot of other people do. yea id prefer the classic logo over it, but its not the end of the world for me if it stays a little while longer.
if the logo changes back to the old one, ill be happy
if it doenst, oh well.
what really matters is how well the team DOES rather than what they're wearing.

When are the Sabres going to be wearing the third jersey? Hopefully soon.

I'm hoping they bust them out tonight, because I am going , but I think they're coming out Monday November 24th against Boston.

And what would really be cool, is when they skate out in the 3rds, give them a standing ovation
for as long as possible, really show how much the fan's want the real logo back!

Actually, it's the 26th, and it's a Wed. (day before Thanksgiving). I'm so excited because I'm going to the game!!

These questions are so silly, it is totally possible to desire the Sabres winning the cup and getting rid of the slug. In the real world god isn't limiting us to one or the other.

I don't see why it's not possible to have an opinion on more then one topic at a time?

But to answer the question, of course I would choose the cup. Why not care for both though?
