Ahhhhhh . . . I think I'm blind . . . I CAN'T SEE!

(Also, I'm amazed at their regular jersey, that they have the slugs on the shoulders. It looks horrible and the colors reeeeally clash.)
Portland Pirates - with Slugs on shoulders

...If they removed the Hockey stick, from the pirate's hands, and made him a tad less cartoonish - with a pair of crossed sabres underneath - the slugs could go away, and it would be a kick-azz logo.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh. all AHL teams are wearing their parent teams logos on shoulders

And the stoopid Icelanders AHL team has the MasterCard logo on front. Really.
Bridgeport Sound Tigers

(Sorry to hijack. That Pirates uni is certainly stunning.)

The Portland Pirates usually have the McDonalds logo in the same position as that MasterCard logo. It's just what the AHL teams do, since they don't bring in the kind of revenue necessary to not sell advertisement patches on their jerseys.

I'm just glad they don't make a big deal out of Salvador Dali's birthday.
pirates_fan_1969
these kind of promo jerseys are not a new thing to the AHL, but new to the Pirates this year. I've seen other teams with camo jerseys, St. Patricks day jerseys to name a few. Other than a 3rd (alternate) jersey, I don't recall seeing anything like this in Portland before. They will rake in some $$ from the auctioning of these jerseys, so that's a good thing for any charities they are involved with.

If Pirate fans want a logo, here's a logo for you:

That's really sweet, I must say.

I wonder how much money this costs the team to make all these jerseys, although I'm sure they make it back and some.

I don't know how much it costs the team, but each jersey seems to have a sponsor. The Portland Pirates foundation takes in the proceeds from these jerseys when they are auctioned off, not unlike the Sabres foundation does with their ticket and game experience auctions.

I got to ride on the Zamboni in HSBC arena thanks to the Sabres Foundation.

Not a bad logo, but The Pirates will be keeping their own. They have been building a brand for 16 years, and keep it different from the parent club, for the unfortunate times when that changes.

...it was meant in jest. Didn't mean to offend.

Though I am considering getting a couple of "one-off" crests custom-embroidered, and getting them put on a cap and a jersey (maybe with Gerbe's or Enroth's name and number) - Simply for the novelty of it. It would be a unique hybrid.

As for "the bad times" - I would think that they're behind us; for both our respective clubs. I anticipate that, barring any calamity, the Pirates and Sabres will be aligned for many, many more years to come.

The fit is already too good, for anyone to contemplate messing with it. And a sense of mutual loyalty has started developing.

Tell you what, we'll help you win another Calder Cup if you help us win our first Stanley Cup. Deal?

Cheers. biggrin.gif

sounds like a deal. I didn't take any offense, it was more of me sharing about my team. I've been a Pirates fan since the first year. when we affiliated with anaheim, some ducks fans didn't get why we didn't re-name the Pirates, or match their colors. They just didn't understand that we were our own entity before they came along.

I've become a Buffalo fan since we changed affiliates, as I like to watch our players move up to the show. Today, I'll be going to my third Sabres game this year, this one in Boston. It should be a lot of fun.

You havent seen many Chicago Wolves games. they have a new jersey for every holiday, event, special. its kind of ridiculous. ive seen 4th of july, st pats day, christmas, valentines day, halloween, special jerseys for season ticket holders, jerseys for partial season ticket holders, mardi gras....

and of course home, away and alternate....and at a point alternate 2.

this isnt an exaggeration.

i also forgot several military jerseys and a millennium jersey or two

It is an honor that the AHL or the Pirates are honoring the veterans who died for their country with a jersey.

Without those men and women who served during war and what they did, we would not be able to live the way we do today. this could be the worst idea ever, could be the worst of designs, but an honor is nothing to be ashamed of. The veterans deserve this and we all should be proud our AHL team is going to honor the men and women who died for them to be able to play hockey.
mechaphil
I don't quite like how they look (at all heh), but the meaning behind wearing them and the money brought in from auctioning them should be a huge boon to the team. I saw some of the figures from the breast cancer awareness jerseys, and hot dang did those sweaters bring some moolah in!
